Crafting Architecture: Concept, Sketch, Model

Crafting Architecture: Concept, Sketch, Model

The Museum of Craft and Design

201 Third St., San Francisco

At once conceptual and practical, models are an integral part of an architect’s toolkit. By helping to guide experiments, and encourage dialogue, they provide insight into the rigors of landscape and building design. Crafting Architecture: Concept, Sketch, Model brings together work from Bay Area design professionals and students, and explores how these architects and landscape architects use models and mock-ups to communicate creative ideas.

Developing models

The models are beginning to take on good levels of development. We can see that spatial relationships are becoming more layered.   Rhea placed a piece of white paper behind her model so that it curves against the wall in order to create a seamless space. Try it- it works well, esp if you need to photoshop out distracting corners or maylines.
